Wet out

Today’s the last day of summer. Maybe they should have made it yesterday instead, as it’s real wet outside.

So I’m at work, and already wet.

My little weather app on my phone says it’s going to stay wet and cold all day as well.

Suck 🙁

Grumpy bus driver

Darn, I had to be that grumpy old bus driver this trip.

I had an elder gentleman with his shopping bag trolley sort of thing with him. I had to ask him to move it next to him by the seat as it was blocking the corridor. We aren’t allowed to have anything blocking the corridor in case there is an accident, as it may slow down people being able to get out. Also it makes it hard for other people boarding or departing the bus to get past.

The second was a young lady drinking her coke. No eating drinking or smoking in the bus. Actually I don’t mind people drinking clear water, but anything else I have to police as coke and other soft drinks get sticky and also attract insects if they are spilt.

So this trip I’m sad as I was the grumpy driver, oh well, next trip now, back to happy me 🙂

I love my life

Been a while since I’ve posted, I’ve been busy.

I had three days off work a week or so ago. My wife and I have now been married for 14 years, so as usual we took our anniversary off just to do us stuff.

As for why it’s been so long since my last post, I blame shadowrun. I haven’t played the game for years. Actually there has been a new edition released since I last played.

Either way, even though last time I played it was the 4.5th edition (SR20a), and now the fifth edition has been released, we are playing the old 3rd edition.

This the reason I’ve not been posting. I went to DriveThruRPG.com and brought a bunch of 3rd edition Shadowrun books (PDFs), and in my small breaks during the day I have been sitting their studying the books rather than posting stuff here.

I now own eight 3rd edition PDFs, and naturally I still have the 4th Ed PDFs I brought last time I played. Oh and I also brought the 5th ed core book as a PDF as well. Guess it’s not that a cheap a hobby, but it’s pretty good.

Oh yes, also have some real paper books form 4th edition laying around so where, but can’t remember where. I don’t go for paper versions of books now, as they are hard to buy in town, cost lots to buy and ship all the way to New Zealand from Amazon, and the PDF versions also allow me to use the search function of the reader 🙂

There has been other contributing factors to why I haven’t written as well. The weather has been great recently, about time. The university is starting up for the year now, so all the students are in town. With the students in town and the great weather, lots and lots of people going to the beach. Yep, you guessed it, I do the beach run, so rather than having ten minutes at each end of my trip to do stuff, I’ve been running flat out trying to keep on time.

So busy at work, busy with my reading, and don’t forget I have a fantastic wife 🙂

Sad drink

Here’s a picture…

Now why on earth is a picture of a drink listed as a sad post?

Well on my way to work this morning I realised I’d forgotten my bottle of water (coke bottle, tap water).

So that left me with the option of turning around and going back to,get it. Not a great option, as I’d be at work either late, or just in time and need to rush through my paperwork and pre-start bus inspections.

Or I could go with out, so four hours before my first break, no drink, stuck in a bus.

Final option, pop into a dairy on route and grab a drink.

Well I chose the last option, but that cost me $4.40, so I’m sad 🙁

Not so good for a friend

I got a ring halfway through Sunday from work. Caller ID told me who it was before I answered.

It seems that one of our drivers is under the weather. He’d been off for a few months now after some surgery, not good when you’re in your seventies. Either way the ops tells me he isn’t feeling well right now, and can’t make it in on Monday.

So instead of starting at 3pm for the week, I am starting at 6.25 for the week, and doing his early shift before I do my afternoon shift.

Good for me I suppose, but sad for him and hoping he is ok.

Sick, police, boots

Stuck home sick again.

Think I’m starting to get cabin fever. Not up to doing very much, but sick of doing nothing. Wish I was back at work today. It’s nice and sunny, and in about an hours time my Friday afternoon shift would have started, and I like that shift. There’s nothing wrong with liking ones job is there?

As for the day, I wandered in the kitchen, looking for something to eat which fitted the doc’s advise of what to eat for the next few days, looked out the window, and there were police everywhere. Even some walking around with big ass guns.

They seemed to have been concentrating on a house a few doors down the next street. They are mostly gone now, just one undercover car still parked there.

As for what I’ve been doing to amuse myself, well not much as I don’t feel great, but I did decide to nugget my boots. I like my boots, i think I spent more on then than any other single piece of clothing or foot ware I own, so I’m going to look after them. Soon I guess I have to go back and polish them, but that seems like more hard work in my condition.

Medicine

This was going to be a sad post, as when I woke up this morning at about 5.50, I had a real banging headache. But I took my medicine, lots of it. Now one and a half hours latter I’m not feeling to bad. Still a little under the weather, but I think I’ll make it through my shift until seven pm tonight without to much trouble.

Now all the medicine I took this morning reminds me strangely enough of Kenny Rogers.

A few years back now, there was a Kenny Rogers concert in Christchurch. Now I had to go to this, I did, and I really enjoyed it. It was a shame the double header, Glenn Campbell couldn’t make it, but it sounds like his touring days are over.

Before I went, I packed my medicine. At the time I was suffering migraines, and also suffering depression. So I had a lot of pills to take. At home they were all in their set place, so every morning and every evening I went and took them. They were all lined up and I knew how many of each. So for a two day trip, I take three days worth, and everything is great…in theory.

We’ll get their, and the first evening I open up my bag and take out all my pills, and realise, there are pills everywhere and I have no idea what I’m supposed to be taking when. At home I just had a routine and a order, but here I was buggered.

We’ll I probably got them right, still here after all, and I only had three days worth, so I couldn’t do myself to much damage.

Either way, as soon as I got home I started searching the App Store (iPhone), for medicine software. We’ll I tried about four before I found the one I use now (RXminder). It’s great, and now even when I have complex requirements, it’s easy. Alarms, reminders, notes, a log, everything I need.

As for the concert, it was fantastic, and now I’m having happy thoughts, the pain is gone, so I’m happy

Saturday

I believe I can mark today as all three, happy, sad, and lazy.

I’m happy because the weather was pretty good, though over windy. I’m working on moving my old desktop into the lounge and connecting it to the media centre. It used to get more use, but now with the laptops, tablet and phones, it’s just not getting the usage it used to get, so it’s being re-tasked.

There is a game I have been playing on my laptop, SimCity. The laptop is under the required specs, so while it’s fun (so says 300+ hours of gameplay), it is a little slow and painful, and the visuals have to be turned right down.

While the desktop is old, it has good specs, and I built it when I was doing 3D, so it needed a bit of power for rendering. So I believe it should give a better performance.

I’m sad, as I’m still sick. Not feeling as bad as Wednesday night, or Thursday and Friday, but I still feel like crap. I’m also sad as I’ve gone and burnt the roof of my mouth real bad again, once again eating pizza my wife cooked for me.

Finally, I’m lazy, as before I install a windows boot on my desktop, which is, and will continue, running Linux, I have a friend over who has spent most of the afternoon updating it for me. Thanks dude.

Nurofen and water

Hasn’t been a good day for a couple f days now. Wednesday evening I started feeling pretty bad. By about 10.30pm I decided that the next day just wasn’t going to work, so I called the after hours number to call in sick for the next morning.

I hate ringing late, but when you start early in the AM, you want to give them as much time as possible to cover your shift.

Well Thursday was pretty unpleasant, but slowly getting better.

Now it’s Friday, and I’m at work.

Still in pain, feeling like crud, but I can keep good focus, so I’ll keep working. If it gets worst, or if I believe I am starting to lose focus, I’ll call it in and go home, but right now I’m feeling terrible but good enough. I’m just running on Nurofen and water for a while.
